[as promised: a tall glass of milk, chilled and all, is waiting for homelander at the bar. hawk grins when he sees the tall head of bottle blonde, picking up his own in salute and waiting for him to slide into the open space next to him before clinking in a mock cheers. he was polite enough not to drink his yet, one crooked elbow resting casually and legs crossed from where he's standing. he's decided to ditch the suit tonight, instead opting for tailored charcoal slacks and a black cashmere v-neck. at least it makes him feel some semblance of the confidence he used to have in spades. it feels a little more authentic now.]

There's the man of the hour. You made it.

[there's another flash of teeth, hand slapping good-naturedly on the back of homelander's shoulder.]

Alright. Let's get this party started, huh?

[ This, at least, is easy. It costs Homelander nothing to smile back when he spots Hawk, waving as he cuts his way across the floor toward the bar. (They're dressed, coincidentally, in near-opposites, with the hero in a crisp white button-down and cream-colored slacks, a dark brown belt and a gold buckle serving as the primary pop of color on his person.) ]

Hell yeah. If you ask me, we should've done this sooner.

[ Once seated, he picks up the glass Hawk has ready for him, raising it in a toast. ]

Here's to good friends, [ he says without hesitation (though he feels it, a little, aware of both their recent losses and the fact that friend is a word that has backfired on him more often than not). But the thing is: he's glad to see Hawk looking at least okay if not great, and he's even gladder not to be on his own. ] Who needs anything else!
